Card Games in Mauritius

The most popular game is Satat - from the Hindi "saat hant" meaning "seven hands" - which is a 4-player partnership game using the international 52-card pack. It is related to the Indian game of Seven Hands (or Court Piece), but in Mauritius the heart2 is the highest card and players are allowed to signal their partners when they hold the highest remaining card of a suit or are playing their last card of a suit.

Other card games commonly played in Mauritius include

  • Romi, which is Indian Rummy
  • Prezidan or Trufes, which is President, usually with single round play and with exchange of cards two cards between the winning and losing players and one between the second and second last players.
