Card games in Slovakia

(Based on information from Martin Gregor and Tomás Svoboda)

The German suited William Tell pack of 32 cards is generally used.

Games played include

  • Mariáš - as in the Czech Republic, but in Slovakia it is normally played anticlockwise.
  • Sedma - a trick-taking game with wild sevens
  • Lórum - a trick avoidance game distantly related to the Hungarian compendium game with the same name.
  • Durak - presumably similar to the Russian game
  • Filo - a game of the Schafkopf group
  • Preference - I am not sure what kind; perhaps similar to the Austrian form
  • Šnaps - similar to Austrian Schnapsen
