Card games in Angola

Gualberto Campos tells me that the Portuguese game Sueca is popular in Angola, especially among industrial workers.

Other popular card games played in Angola are King (among the middle class), Bisca ("dos nove" or "dos tres"), Burro, Sete e Meio, Vinte e Um, and Lerpa. These last three are gambling games. Poker is also played in some middle class circles.

The rules of Bisca are similar to those of Sueca in terms of the value of the cards and scoring. The main difference is that each player plays alone against the other players while in Sueca they play in partnerships, two against two. In "Bisca dos Tres", each player initially receives three cards while in the "Bisca dos Noves" he will get nine cards at the start of the game.
